Six members of Doncaster Sub-Aqua Club took to the water on Tuesday 21st of July 2026 for an evening dive off South Landing at Flamborough Head.

The group travelled aboard Valiant for the North Sea outing, which included newly qualified Ocean Diver Craig, who was completing his first sea dive since gaining his qualification.

Following a period of northerly winds, expectations for underwater visibility were low. However, the challenging conditions did not deter the hardy group of North Sea divers, who were keen to make the most of the evening.

Despite visibility of around one metre, all six divers enjoyed approximately an hour in the water, completing a drift dive on the incoming tide. The group reported seeing plenty of marine life during the dive, making the trip an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

Conditions above the surface proved to be considerably more favourable. The divers were treated to a calm, windless evening, while several pods of dolphins were spotted swimming just a few metres from the boat.

Grimsby & Cleethorpes Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC 37) Divers Complete First Known Club Dive on the Wreck of the Empress

Members of Grimsby & Cleethorpes Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC 37) have completed what is believed to be the club’s first dive on the wreck of the Empress, after waiting for suitable conditions to make the long-planned exploration possible.

The dive had been on the club’s radar for some time, but a combination of weather and sea conditions had repeatedly prevented the trip from taking place. Last Friday, however, favourable tides and improved conditions allowed twelve club members to finally visit the site.

While visibility underwater was limited, divers said conditions were better than expected following strong winds in the days before the dive. The team described the experience as a successful and enjoyable exploration, with plans already being made for a return visit.

It looks like Grimsby & Cleethorpes Sub-Aqua Club enjoyed another fantastic day out, packed with exciting adventures, great experiences, and plenty of fun along the way! From exploring beneath the surface to sharing the day with fellow diving enthusiasts, it was a brilliant opportunity for everyone involved to enjoy the activities the club has to offer.
